Gender Check: World Architecture Festival Singapore 2012 *fail
I have just run into the program of the speakers for the World Architecture Festival Singapore 2012 and i’m not pleased.
The gender balance goes 6/44 speakers, i won’t even go into diversity as the pannel sadly represents the stand of our profession today: white, male, over 40. (9 Asians are speaking.)
So let’s rather take a look at our ladies speakers instead.
Eva Castro , and her Office- interesting and design innovative- Plasma Studio.
She also is part of another collective: Groundlab ltd. Is an emerging international practice of Landscape Urbanism led by 5 partners-Eva Castro, Holger Kehne, Alfredo Ramirez, Eduardo Rico and Sarah Majid. The International Horticultural Expo in China is an amazing project.
Castro has been educated at the Universidad Central de Venezuela and completed an AA Graduate Design programme.
Angelene Chan, partner at DP Architects.
a huge architecture firm located in Singapore
DP is located in Singapore but build worldwide. Rather commercial architecture- she was in charge of Republic Polytechnic, a university building.
Chan graduated from the University of Adelaide, Australia.
Belinda Huang, principal of arc studio, based in Singapore.
Huang studied Architecture at the National University of Singapore and completed her Diploma in Architecture at the Bartlett, UK.
The Pinnacle is an impressive residential project.
Sandra Manninger, is principal and founder of the office DelCampoManninger (Span)
Manninger was educated at the Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien).
Her practice is involved mostly in teaching and research, and built the Austrian pavilion at Expo Shanghai 2010.
Pernilla Ohrstedt is an independant architect and curator
Emerging Woman Architect of the Year by Architects Journal in 2012 . Educated at Central St. Martin’s, and the Bartlett School of Architecture and University College London.
Her latest project is a collaboration with A. Kahn for Coca Cola at London Olympics.
and Dr Cheong Kean Hean, a doctor.
